It was going to last forever. Their entire lifetime was only a moment, and that was the moment in which they lived. Status and everything in which it granted was theirs for the taking; attention, adoration and access. They ran wild with the wolves, and in turn, gained a fame of their own, borrowed as it may have been. Coupling with some of the biggest names left them assured that they would marry into Hollywood royalty. This only plunged the knife deeper and twisted it harder to discover in a melancholic hindsight that they served only as model arm candy for the paparazzi. Drowning or snorting their sorrows, what else was there to do but shed the shock like a coat onto the bedroom floor and get back in the game. Because, it was going to last forever. The thing with youth is that there is an endless supply. One's exit happened in unacknowledged silence, with a complete absence of ceremony. Your name was escorted from the scene under anesthesia, swift and painless. Where once you were the lead actress, you suddenly found yourself playing the mother to the lead actress. Even worse, she was the romantic interest to your former leading man. The calls stop. This is why the call to let you know that it is all over never happened. It was going to last forever. Fame is a funny thing. While fleeting, being famous lasts forever. While they cannot get to all of the places you used to, you can get places, and people around town still know who you are. They figured out that they were the party, and as long as they sold it, people would buy. They did not need to get into the party, because they were the party. Always made sure to hold their head up and maintain appearances. They never know when their Prince Charming or Cecile B. DeMille was going to happen by. And, if one had to choose between food or drink, just remember, being the host was what was important. Alcohol was nutrition enough for their needs. Because, it couldn't go on like this forever. -Mike Tomasulo
